Income earned abroad in Portugal must be declared

All income earned by Portuguese resident taxpayers abroad, as well as bank accounts, must be declared. The Tax Authority explained that the taxpayer must include salary, pension, annuity or dividends from accounts abroad in Appendix J of the IRS return. The announcement emphasises the need to take into account international double taxation in the final tax calculation in Portugal.

 

Committee set up to investigate power cuts

The European Network of Transmission System Managers will set up a committee to investigate the causes of the blackout that left mainland Portugal, Spain and Andorra and parts of France in darkness on Monday. The organisation said it would investigate the main causes, prepare an analysis and make recommendations in a final report on the incident.

 

Everyone should have an emergency kit at home

In an interview with SIC Notícias, Margarida Castro Martins, director of Lisbon City Council's municipal civil defence service, said everyone should have an emergency kit at home for emergencies. A torch, a whistle, food, water, a battery-operated radio and everything you need to survive. Here are some of the items she advised everyone to have.

 

Demand for radios soared by 4,600 per cent

Power cuts have forced consumers to buy products en masse to guarantee autonomy in emergencies. According to the KuantoKusta platform, radios 4,594 per cent, powerbanks 1,728 per cent and portable cookers 348 per cent were the most in demand.
