Born in Argentina and raised in Brazil, he has performed in over 40 countries and recorded multiple albums blending jazz with Afro-Brazilian, Latin, and contemporary influences.

An Artist in Motion: The Journey of Pablo Lapidusas

Pianist, composer, producer, and educator, Pablo Lapidusas has been building a career over three decades that defies easy categorization. Born in Argentina, raised in Brazil, and based in Portugal, Lapidusas is a global artist whose music reflects a unique synthesis of cultural and stylistic influences. With eight albums released and a songbook (*Pianoworks I*), Lapidusas is a restless musician, constantly redefining his performative possibilities.

The Mark of a Virtuoso

What defines Lapidusas is his unmistakable rhythmic vigor, a sonic signature that permeates his compositions and performances. His technical virtuosity is evident but never ostentatious. As the legendary Brazilian composer Edu Lobo observed:

"His compositions are extremely rich, the result of immense devotion and passion."

This passion shines through in every chord, every melodic phrase, and every improvisation he delivers on stage.

Since 2008, Lapidusas has performed primarily as a soloist and with his trio, "P.L.I.N.T," while also collaborating with orchestras in Portugal, Canada, and Israel, performing his own repertoire. His performances are marked by a rare intensity. South African journalist Gwen Ansell captured this dynamic when describing one of his performances:

"He was impressed by the total silence (you could hear a pin drop) during his performance, but perhaps no more impressed than the audience, by his surprising technique, unpredictable tempo changes, delicate light and shadows, and a solid rhythmic left hand."

Collaborations That Speak for Themselves

The list of Lapidusas' collaborations is a testament to his versatility and the admiration he garners around the world; Hermeto Pascoal, Edu Lobo, Marcelo D2, Jaques Morelenbaum, I Musici di Montreal, Cesar Camargo Mariano, Hamilton de Holanda, Marcus Wyatt, Carlos Malta, Eugene Friesen, Sid Jacobs, Zezé Motta, Joni Schwalbach, Mordy Ferber, Ehud Ettun, Wanda Sá, Quarteto em Cy, Eduardo Dussek, Sandra de Sá, Victor Biglione, Nelson Faria, Gabriel Grossi, Maria João, Bena Lobo, Rem Urasin, and Amir Milstein are some of the names with whom he has shared studios and stages in over 40 countries. Ivan Lins, another icon of Brazilian music, describes Lapidusas as "daring and with impeccable technique," highlighting his ability to "flirt with harmonic and rhythmic oddities."

In 2021, Lapidusas received the "Prêmio Profissionais da Música" for the soundtrack of the TV series Herdeiros de Saramago, aired by RTP. This recognition crowned a career that transcends the stage and connects with other forms of art.

Educator and Mentor

Beyond his career as a performer and composer, Lapidusas is a dedicated educator. With workshops and masterclasses held in Portugal, Brazil, the USA, Israel, and India, his pedagogical approach reflects his own journey: a constant search for new perspectives and an unshakable passion for music.

The Future in His Hands

Currently, alongside his intense schedule of concerts and teaching, Lapidusas is simultaneously immersed in preparing his ninth album and a multimedia solo piano project, setting texts by renowned Chinese visual artist Ai Weiwei to music. Another highlight is the "Concerto de Bolso" project, which brings classical music to public schools in Brazil, performed on a Toy Piano, and "Looking for Johnny Alf", a tribute project in partnership with young London-based singer Celeste Caramanna.
