A practical webinar with a tax lawyer — real examples, live Q&A, no jargon

Every spring, Portugal enters tax season — and every year, thousands of expats realise they still don’t fully understand how the system works. IRS, NIF, e-fatura, recibos verdes, englobamento, retenção na fonte — terms that intimidate even those who have lived in Portugal for years.
We know this problem from the inside. Tax questions are by far the most common in our community — and the most dangerous when answered by “someone in a Facebook group” rather than a qualified professional. That’s why we’ve organised something that has been long overdue: a direct, no-nonsense conversation with a tax lawyer who works with international clients in Portugal every single day.
Why now?
From 1 April to 30 June 2026, every tax resident in Portugal is required to file their annual IRS declaration. This is not a deadline you can afford to miss. The penalty for late filing starts at €150 and can reach €3,750. But it’s not just about penalties. Not understanding the system costs you money — people overpay their taxes simply because they don’t know about the deductions and benefits they’re entitled to.
Here are just a few of the questions we hear every day:
“I work remotely for a foreign company — do I need to pay taxes in Portugal?”
“I’m a freelancer, I opened recibos verdes — but I have no idea how much to set aside for taxes”
“What is NHR 2.0 / IFICI and can I still apply?”
“I got a letter from Finanças and I’m panicking”
“Should I file jointly or separately? What if my spouse doesn’t work?”
If any of these sound familiar — this webinar is for you.
What you will learn
This webinar isn’t a textbook lecture. It’s a practical, structured conversation with a tax lawyer who deals with exactly these questions every day. Here’s what will be covered:
How the Portuguese IRS system is structured. 9 brackets, 6 income categories, withholding, deductions — explained simply, with examples
What your actual obligations are. Who must file, who can use IRS Automático, and what happens if you don’t
Common mistakes that cost money. Wrong choice of joint vs separate filing, unused deductions, not understanding e-fatura
Deductions and tax benefits. Health, education, rent, PPR, family deductions — and how to actually claim them
What to do right now. A step-by-step plan to prepare for your IRS filing before the deadline
